The Spread Some Happiness Book Project

A wonderful way to fundraise is to give give and receive.  The invaluable experience I gained through my books with Thames & Hudson, planted the seed for the ‘Spread Some Happiness’ initiative. The books featured poems, quotes and pictures from every single member of the school community including headmaster, caretaker, students, cooks and everyone in-between.  The thread that connected these books were the questions, ‘what would you do to make someone happy and what makes you happy?’  In asking the parents to purchase the hardback books for as little as £10 or as much as they wished to give, we not only raised £24,000 split over 3 schools, but I hope we were able to capture a heartfelt moment to be cherished for all time. I loved this labour of love and if you’d like to create something similar in your school, I would be more than happy to help. Milli was a giggling beam of light and her mantra was ‘spread love and joy’. When she passed, it seemed fitting to celebrate happiness through the publication of beautifully presented books that engaged the whole school community, from the youngest child to the oldest caretaker and everyone in between. The books posed two questions - what makes you feel happy and how will you spread happiness? The answers came in the form of poems, pictures, and mission statements. These books are created to cherish for all time and to deepen the connection we share with others. This initiative has run in 3 schools and raised £23k to date. Do get in touch if you would like to create a similar project in your school.
