  3. Wheel of Life

    December 29, 2009

Everything goes in cycles, including our desire to over-indulge in December and our need to detox in January.  A detox is not simply about watching the quality of our food intake, but also about detoxing area’s of our lives that are not working or are perhaps out of balance.  With this in mind, I want to share a simple and effective tool known as the ‘wheel of life’, of which there are many versions, but I found this one on www.new.oceans.co.uk.simplezAs above, you draw a circle/chart and split it into key areas of your life – obviously there need not be as many sections as shown here.  Consider what your 10/10 looks like in each area and then map out where you are now in relation to your ideal. What should follow is a clear indication of how in or out of balance your life is and this then works as a road map to your year ahead.  I hope this comes in handy when you are planning your news years resolutions and that you have a healthy, joyous year ahead.

  6. Anthropologie

    December 9, 2009

I attended a beauty industry talk this morning (more on why in January), of which the guest speaker was Marcia Kilgore;  founder of Bliss Spa’s, Soap and more recently the Fitflop. Marcia was inspirational, authentic and clearly passionate about life.  I then, finally managed to get to the London outpost of Anthropologie on Regent Street.  I felt as if I had walked into Merci in Paris, which was a little disappointing as I wanted something different, but that’s me being super picky.  If you have not been to Merci, this will be a real treat, but it is the merchandising that is captivating, rather than the merchandise, which if have a good eye, you would find in Portobello Market or similar for considerably less.  That being said, it worth a visit and if you can’t make it to London, try their site – image below taken from www.anthropologie.co.uk 944089_070_e

  7. Simon Brown

    December 8, 2009

I come across a lot of photographers and whilst many have a good eye, it is those that know how to play with light that produce the most awe-inspiring results.  One such photographer is Simon Brown, who manages to turn simple objects and textures into works of art, reminiscent of the old masters.  See more of his stunning work in his latest book ‘Romantic Irish Home’ and if you can’t wait until that is published see – www.simonbrownphotography.com 04) LeafOnTableEdge03) Decanters&Candelabra[1]05) RedTomatesON Pewter

  8. Notting Hill Brasserie

    November 25, 2009

I have walked passed Notting Hill Brasserie more times than I can remember, but ate there for the first time on Monday evening.  The food was superb, the service faultless and the informal vibe gave our private dining room, all the comfort of home, but without the washing up – heaven.

I have known the group of 16 friends for three years now  (we met through my son’s nursery) and being in their company made me feel blessed to live in London; a place where individuals from different walks of life come together- Spanish, Irish, Scottish, Jewish, Indian, Greek, American and even an Englishman!

  9. Cherish

    October 13, 2008

This is my first blog. I am not sure what it will become; part random thoughts, part useful information and part ideas. So here I begin with a random thought and a recommendation.

    Cherish

I don’t want to dwell on the state of the economy.  One can hardly move for media bombarding us with doom and gloom stories, but is it all bad news? Perhaps we will no longer buy things we neither need nor want for the sake of a shopping high that barely lasts the journey home.  It is not about how much we spend but how we feel about the things we surround ourselves with.

The things that endure, that give a feeling of comfort and pleasure tend to have meaning and memories attached to them and for me some of these include my mothers jewellery, a few of my children’s paintings, trusted kitchen utensils battered from the many meals they have created, shabby furniture from the first home I shared with my husband, old books that remind me of certain periods of my life – the one I read when pregnant, the one I read on holiday with friends… and then there is the work of Carolyn Quartermaine. Carolyn’s exquisite textiles prove it is possible to please adult and child without compromising either’s tastes and are fabrics to be cherished through the generations.
