1. Living etc.

    March 5, 2010

I was thrilled to be asked to feature on Living etc. coveted back page and here is the finished article.  It suddenly dawned on me, I must look as if I never change my clothes.  You magazine, my own site and now Living etc. all in the same top!  Partly it is because I designed it so happen to love it and more so because all three pictures were taken on the same day.  So now you know.  LE_Apr_AnitaKaushal

  3. Living Etc.

    January 29, 2010

I was delighted to be asked to give quick my ideas on easy home updates for a Living Etc. article and you can click below to see the finished article. The magazine have shown newspaper applied to the wall, but a good alternative (especially in a small space like a WC) would be a favorite book and for an old tarnished look use tea stained water.  Foreign language books make interesting graphics and can be broken up with with randomly spaced bright images and sealed with acrylic varnish. If an entire room or wall seems too much, then this idea works just as well on a table or chair. LE_Feb_D&D48Hours_CDPv2[1]

  4. YOU magazine

    November 12, 2009

Here is a recent article that recently appeared in You Magazine.

    you-magazine

I was so pleased when YOU magazine asked to feature my home, as they were the first magazine to feature my two bed flat in Westbourne Grove, many years ago.  Two children and two house moves later, not much has changed in terms of my style; I still like to surround myself with beautiful things, but nothing is as precious as a relaxed environment in which my family feels safe and comfortable.

  5. Cookie Travel

    May 14, 2009

Here is a little article on my tips for stress-free family travel, as featured in the May issue of Cookie Magazine.  I sound super-spoilt travelling six times a year, but that includes the little weekend trips taken on a whim and in this economic downturn, that is something we can all do a little more of.

Before having children, Bittu and I would land up in a new country, get in a taxi and stop wherever looked promising, walk around and find a hotel that appealed and in doing so we always got a good deal, but as importantly, it added to our sense of adventure.  Obviously with children, that becomes rather more difficult, but we do plan short weekend breaks on a whim and just call the hotels of our choice a day or two before travelling and this always leads to a great deal and extras thrown in.  We only tell the children once the plans are made and treat it as a surprise reward for great behaviour.   We will make another short trip soon as a reward for my son learning to cycle.  I honestly can’t remember the last time I felt such joy and wonderment, as when I saw him cycling independently down our road last week.  I could go on and on about the moment, the excitement, but for anyone who has been there, they know what I mean and for those who will soon get there, enjoy the ride.

  7. A place I call home

    January 28, 2009

What makes a house a home?  For me it is a house that is lived in, loved and shared.  Here is a little of my home. (click on the images for a more detailed photo).

we made a swing long enough to seat me and both my children. we swing and look out onto the garden most days.

The swing was made to be long enough to seat both my children, who use it most days as they look out onto the garden. Guests are aprehensive at first but in no time at all they too get into the swing of things. It is my way of showing this is a house to be enjoyed and one in which children are welcome always.

one of my most cherised possessions - butterfly cut outs made by my husband for my birthday.

Cherised possessions should be enjoyed and not hidden away. These butterfly cut outs, made by my husband for my birthday bring a smile to my face everday.

this the the hall in which we have Milli's piano, an old mirror, cd and more.

The hall is more than a utilitarian space and ours provides the perfect place for this large mirror which reflects the living and kitchen, bringing both together. Favorite cd's, pictures and a piano make it a space to gather and share, rather then simply pass through.

Our bedroom and bathroom are one and simply seperated by space. The shelves are filled with favorite night time reading.

The headboard is covered with a velvet bedcover that I have stapled to the back of the base. I use bedcovers as valances also and change them seasonily. Light linen or voile in the summer and silk or velvet in the winter. It is an easy update and transforms the look of the room.

my son's room has a little secret hatch in the ceiling above his bunk; from here he climbs into the loft, which we have converted into his playden.

Last year I was lucky enough to travel to India with my family and dear friends.  We were there for the festival of ‘Holi’ and you can read all about it an article I wrote for the Guardian Travel pages.
